Aspens is entering an exciting new chapter as we strengthen how we work and continue building an organisation where our teams feel supported, valued and able to thrive. This evolution reflects our commitment to providing the very best support for autistic individuals, people with learning disabilities and their families.

At the heart of this new phase is the introduction of our Inclusive Leadership Board, which replaces our former Executive Team. This refreshed structure brings together a blend of strategic, financial and operational expertise through Robert Shanahan, Chief Executive, Lynne Mackintosh, Chief Finance Officer and Stevie Rice, who has recently joined Aspens as our new Chief Operating Officer.

This new approach gives us the clarity and confidence we need as the world around us continues to shift. It reflects our belief that every voice matters, every contribution makes a difference and every person deserves the support they need to succeed.

Stevie brings more than 27 years of senior leadership experience across the charity sector. Her career spans local and national work to strengthen mental health services across the Mind network, chairing the national Mind Network Sustainability Group and serving on Mind’s Network Committee. Named Mental Health Leader of the Year at the 2021 Kent Mental Health and Wellbeing Awards, Stevie is a respected and trusted voice across the charity landscape. She also sits on the Mental Health, Learning Disability and Autism Provider Collaborative Board and the Kent VCSE Steering Group and has held a range of CEO, director, non-executive and trustee roles.

Reflecting on her appointment, Stevie said: “I’m absolutely thrilled to be joining the team at Aspens. To be part of an organisation with values that are so aligned to my own, with such a strong and well-respected reputation and a vision that matches my ambitions is a real privilege. I’m particularly excited to be working within the sphere of learning disability and autism again and to be part of a community that integrates lived experience, creativity and advocacy to change cultural perceptions, enrich lives, and challenge stigma.”

CEO Robert Shanahan added: “Stevie’s appointment marks an important moment for Aspens. Our new Inclusive Leadership Board strengthens how we work and ensures we are building an organisation where people feel empowered, supported and able to do their best work. Stevie’s depth of experience and her passion for inclusion will help us continue to evolve and deliver the highest‑quality support for the people and families we support.”
