Aspens is thrilled to announce the sale of a remarkable piece of history: an automaton singing birds in a birdcage. This exquisite item, in stunning condition for its age, has been generously donated to support our cause.

A Glimpse into the Past

This automaton, crafted in the late 19th century, features intricately detailed birds that sing and move within their ornate cage. The craftsmanship and attention to detail are extraordinary, making it a rare find for collectors and enthusiasts.

Why this Piece is Special

In the 19th century, a new era of toys emerged, automatons. These featured automatic mechanisms, usually propelled by a wind-up mechanism. The singing birds were some of the first automatons to be released to the public as toys.

Bexhill’s assistant manager, Helen Pescott, saw this item and knowing its significance sent it to us knowing they wouldn’t get the price they wanted in store. Upon receiving it, Lisa Medhurst, Aspens' e-Commerce Manager recognised it as a high-value automaton toy from the Victorian era.

Support a Worthy Cause
