As part of our Learning Disability Week activities, members of Aspens People’s Voice visited Maidstone Hospital this week to play an important role in shaping more inclusive healthcare services.

The visit formed part of an advisory group working alongside the NHS Learning Disability team, focused on improving the accessibility of information across hospital services. The group brings together people with lived experience from across Aspens’ community to share their insights, helping ensure that information is clearer, more inclusive and easier to understand for everyone.

This collaborative work highlights the vital importance of listening to the voices of the people we support. By being directly involved, members of the People’s Voice are not only sharing their experiences but are also being recognised as experts in their own lives, helping to influence meaningful change within the NHS.

Accessible information can make a significant difference to a person’s healthcare journey. By contributing to this work, the group is helping to remove barriers, improve understanding and promote more positive experiences for people with learning disabilities when accessing hospital services.

At Aspens, we are proud to support initiatives that empower individuals to have their voices heard and to take an active role in shaping the services they use. The involvement of the People’s Voice in this advisory group is a powerful example of co-production in action, where real change is driven by those with lived experience.

Help us continue creating opportunities for people to be heard and make a real impact - explore ways to support Aspens today.
