We are delighted to announce that Aspens’ Children’s Short Break and Overnight Service has been awarded an Outstanding rating by Ofsted for the second time in less than a year – a remarkable achievement that reflects the dedication, compassion and expertise of our colleagues.

The inspection, carried out in May 2026, awarded the service Outstanding across all key areas, including children’s experiences and progress, safeguarding, and leadership and management. Inspectors found that the service “provides highly effective services that consistently exceed the standards of good” and contributes to “significantly improved outcomes and positive experiences” for the children and young people it supports.

The report highlighted the impact of our highly motivated and nurturing staff, noting that the committed and stable workforce provides exceptional and consistent care, enabling children to form positive relationships, feel safe and make significant progress in developing life skills and participating in their communities.

Inspectors praised the service’s innovative and child-centred approach, including personalised communication methods, tailored support plans and opportunities that help children achieve their goals, build confidence and celebrate their achievements. They also recognised the team’s commitment to inclusion, partnership working with families and the creation of positive experiences through social, recreational and community activities.

Robert Shanahan, Chief Executive Officer of Aspens, said:

“I am incredibly proud of everyone involved in achieving this Outstanding rating. To receive this recognition once is a fantastic achievement; to achieve it for the second time in less than a year demonstrates the exceptional quality, consistency and dedication of our team under the leadership of Mandy Kennedy, Registered Service Manager and Samantha Fievez, Responsible Individual. Every day, colleagues go above and beyond to ensure young people and their families receive the very best support, and this report is a wonderful reflection of their passion, care and commitment.”

Mandy Kennedy said: “We should all take pride in this accomplishment and celebrate what we have achieved together.”

Samantha Fievez said:  “Everyone within Aspens should be incredibly proud of the part they have played in achieving this fantastic result for our children, young people and their families.”

One of the most powerful endorsements came directly from Ofsted’s summary, which stated:

“Children benefit from highly motivated, nurturing and ambitious staff. The committed, stable workforce provides exceptional and consistent care.”

With no requirements or recommendations raised following the inspection, this Outstanding result is a testament to the hard work of the entire team and their unwavering commitment to helping children and young people thrive. Congratulations to everyone involved in this fantastic achievement.
